Features:

In response to the increasingly complex challenges faced by the rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new and cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring “Hub” and “Thrust” to substitute the conventional one characterized by “school” and “department”, facilitating cross-disciplinary integration while vigorously developing emerging and frontier disciplines. This is a groundbreaking move in the higher education community across the globe.

HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs, namely Function Hub, Information Hub, Systems Hub, Society Hub and offers 15 postgraduate degrees. The admission of undergraduate students began in 2023, with the first batch of programs covering Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Smart Manufacturing Engineering.

The Red Bird MPhil Program is a full-time Master of Philosophy Program designed by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (referred to as HKUST(GZ)) College of Future Technology to achieve the goal of cultivating "top talents and future leaders in academy and industry". This program embodies the interdisciplinary "hub concept", explores innovative talent development models and breaks through the traditional model of master student admission that is based on disciplinary divisions. Without boundaries between disciplines and specialties, it encompasses the four hubs of HKUST (GZ) and their respective thrusts. Students are encouraged to integrate their personal interests, educational backgrounds, and future career plans. After six months of independent academic exploration upon enrollment, students determine their research direction and collaborative team. They also choose their academic supervisors from any hub or thrust through mutual selection. The thrust of the academic supervisors determines the student's registered specialization. Throughout the whole program, the Red Bird MPhil Program remains student-centered through the teaching model guided by team projects. Students collaborate with academic supervisors from different hubs and thrusts, project supervisors, and industry supervisors,  to accomplish interdisciplinary team projects and academic requirements.
