Introduction to University

Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It was established on May 26, 2000 through the merger of the former Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji Medical University, and Wuhan Urban Construction College. It is one of the key universities under the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" construction, and is one of the first batch of "Double First Class" construction universities. The school has 11 major disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management, art, and interdisciplinary studies; There are 119 undergraduate majors, 47 first level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 46 first level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, and 42 postdoctoral research stations. There are currently 7 national key disciplines at the first level, 15 national key disciplines at the second level (internal medicine and surgery are classified as third level), and 7 national key (cultivated) disciplines. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, 44 disciplines from the school participated and all made the list. Among them, four disciplines including mechanical engineering, optical engineering, biomedical engineering, public health and preventive medicine entered A+, 14 disciplines entered A+, and 33 disciplines entered B+or above. Nine disciplines have been selected for the second round of the national "Double First Class" construction discipline list.
